Recently, the (2012) LOL Movie trailer was released. It’s an american remake of a french film, and if you follow my music, you may have noticed my hinting at some involvement in that movie regarding the music side of things. A few people have been asking what the name of the last song is in the recent LOL Trailer, and I just wanted to give you an update. I’m not actually in the movie, but my voice is. I sang four songs which are heard throughout the movie, and I’m basically Kyle (Douglas Booth)’s singing voice in LOL. Unfortunately, I didn’t really do any writing for the film (aside from a few tweaks on one song), but regardless, I still feel blessed to have had the opportunity to have been involved in some capacity with a major picture like this.

So to get back to the name of the last song in the actual LOL Trailer, it is titled “Heart on Fire“, and it was written by a buddy of mine (Scott Thomas). I’m basically the ‘performing artist’ on the song, so the soundtrack will be titled accordingly (Jonathan Clay). I’m not exactly sure when the release date for the soundtrack is, but I would imagine that it would coincide to some concurrent degree with the release of the actual LOL Movie.

If this is the first you’ve ever heard of me or my music, please be sure to check out my newest record on iTunes (direct link here). Hopefully you’ll find something there there that strikes a similar chord with you. Hope this clears up any confusion and answers a few questions. Let me know if you’ve got anything else regarding the songs in the LOL Movie, and I’ll do my best to get you an accurate answer.

Talk soon,

Life in Los Angeles is intense. I havn’t quite figured out if I could ever call this place home, but nonetheless, I’m embracing the chance to experience a temporary life out on the West coast. I’ve been busy with Jamestown Revival, and feeling a little strange for leaving this area of my live to fend for itself. Simply put, I feel inclined to catch up.

Apparently Texas is burning up right now. Literally and figuratively. 100 degree heat and 1000 degree wildfires make for a bad combination. I miss that place. Good thing is, I’m surrounded by good people up here, and that can make a world of difference when you’re feeling a tinge of “homesick-ness”. I’ve been filling up every solitary second of downtime I have with learning different things. I couldn’t tell you if my reason for that was because of a genuine insatiable appetite for learning, or if it was driven by this underlying feeling of wanting to take advantage of my time here. I hope it’s the former, but either way, the end result seems to be a positive one. My recent obsession is vector graphics and illustrator. I picked up a book called “The Small Stakes”, which is nothing but a collection of illustrations by Jason Munn. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. It’s nothing groundbreaking. Just solid, thoughtful, inspiring illustration. I love it.

I’ve been running a lot. Physically running. I live 12 blocks from the Pacific Coast Highway and the view makes my rent seem somewhat justified. Last month I did 37 miles up and down that stretch of pavement, and while I know that’s nothing insane, I’m still proud.

When I sat down I intended for this to be much longer than what it is. That’s about all I’ve got for now though. I’m also posting blogs at www.jamestownrevival.com if you’re curios. I’ll continue to post on both sites, but you can expect this particular blog to pertain more specifically to what’s going on in my life.

I’m feeling good about everything that’s going on. JR is continuing to gain momentum. We’re playing a steady stream of shows, and we’re getting some reassuring feedback. Most importantly, I feel like I’m doing exactly what I need to be doing. That can go a really long way.

Last night was pretty surreal. As you know, I’ve recently formed a duo group with Zach Chance called Jamestown Revival. While watching Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night I heard him say the name of our band. I knew ahead of time that we were going to be a part of this, but it really hit home when I heard Fallon say Jamestown Revival.

Here is the gist of the contest: Rolling Stone has picked 16 bands from around the country who they think have what it takes. Whichever bands fandbase shows the strongest support takes the cover. It only takes a few seconds to vote, and each and every person’s vote adds up. 1 person can submit 1 vote per round. There are 4 total rounds. As of now, we’re trailing a little behind, and that has let me to ask for your help. It’s time to rally the troops. Show us some love, cast a vote, and we’ll give you a link to download our album completely FREE. Here’s what you do if you want to help us take the cover:

On the widget below:

1. Give us a 5 star rating

2. Click the “like” button (if you have a facebook account)

3. If you want to help spread the word, click the tweet button and share with your followers.

I know that if you all get behind Jamestown Revival, we’ll take it to the finish. I am very careful to never ask for your help unless I feel that it is absolutely necessary, and this is one of those times. I can not tell you thank you enough for your support thus far, and I hope you’ll find this to be a worthy cause. This could be a game-changer.

As a way to say Thank You for voting, Zach and I have decided to give everyone who votes a completely FREE download of our brand new EP that was released on iTunes a few weeks ago. I hate it when a band makes you jump through all kinds of hoops before they give you anything, so we’re not going to do any of that. It’s going to work by the “honor system”, and if you voted, send us an email to: ivoted@jamestownrevival.com and we’ll email you back with a link to download our album. It’s that simple. If you already purchased our album on iTunes, you can rest assured that your support of our music did not go unappreciated and it went directly to paying back our expenses for the creation of the EP. If nobody buys music, we’re out of business, and we’re glad you felt it was worth the price.

I can not thank you enough for your help in spreading the word about the music we create.

Talk soon,
Jonathan

Zach and I have wasted no time… The Jamestown Revival EP will be available on February 3rd through iTunes. Physical copies will follow soon thereafter. It’s called “The Knives & Pipes EP”. I’ve never created music from start to finish in the way that we created this album. We produced/arranged the songs, played the instruments, engineered the recording, and even designed the album packaging. ~ 500 hours later, Zach and I were about ready to kill each other, but it was absolutely worth it. We had some help from Ryan in the mixing department, and I’ve got to say, the guy is a bad ass… Look for it this Thursday. Leave a review. Become a revivalist.

As far as touring goes, I know I mentioned a few months ago that I would be touring in January/February in the East. A short while after I posted that blog, I was contacted regarding an opportunity to hop on a tour through the west coast and up in to Canada. I felt like it was an opportunity that I really needed to pursue, so the East coast has now been postponed until April. I hate to change plans like that and I really hope you can understand. I owe you an apology, and I’m going to do everything I can to make it out that way ASAP. I’ve got all your venue suggestions written down in a word document that I am calling on for the planning of the run later on this year.

The upcoming tour through the west is officially billed as “Jamestown Revival” and the the locations/cities we’ll be passing through are as follows:

Feb 3 College Station, TX (Mugwalls)
Feb 4 Dallas, TX (Opening Bell)
Feb 5 Tomball, TX (Mainstreet Crossing)
Feb 17 Portland, OR (Doug Fir Lounge)
Feb 18 Seattle, WA (The High Dive)
Feb 19 Vancouver, BC (The Biltmore Cabaret)
Feb 22 Sacramento, CA (Blue Lamp)
Feb 23 San Francisco, CA (Slims)
Feb 25 Los Angeles, CA (The Hotel Cafe)
Feb 26 San Diego, CA (The Casbah)

And March 2nd we’re playing a benefit concert for Believe In Miracles in Rochester, MI at Oakland University.

It’s going to be a cold one this week. Batten down the hatches and stay warm…

Zach and I just finished up a new song. The lyrics are an unadulterated look in to what makes me tic. Same could be said for him. It’s the kind of song that I would play to an invisible audience just because I feel so strongly about the words that we wrote. Try as I may, I’ve never been successful at forcing a song like this. Lately, I havn’t had to. The songs I’ve been writing recently have been the result of long drawn out conversations and overdue examinations. I feel like I’ve finally tapped in to whatever it is that makes the act of “co-writing” a true expression. Whatever it is, it’s working, and I’m hooked.

I lived out my adolescence in a town where the population sign reads 1,111. I grew up with Zach, and we started creating music when we were 14. We never had any kind of band but we wrote a lot together, and I would say that the idea was always there in the back or our minds. Being roommates in college, we continued the trend and eventually started building up our individual solo projects. I love my solo project, and I hold it very dearly, but sometimes a little change can really seem to have a positive effect. This is not an end to my solo project, it’s more of a parallel road. Put very simply, I’m joining up with an old friend of mine and making music. Stylistically, it’s different from my solo project, but I think you’ll hear some things in common.

This has been a long time coming. This is JAMESTOWN REVIVAL.

Stay tuned. Got some things coming down the line.

This is going to be short & sweet at face value. Who knows what you may end up taking from it, however. At some point in the not-so-distant past I’ve been led to Google each one of these search terms. All at different times, and all spurred by different instigators.

There is no rhyme or reason to this collection. Additionally, there’s a chance that you may find some of these terms to be totally useless to you… but then again, you may not.

Dig a little.

1. Peak Oil
2. Louis L’Amour
3. Weather Modification
4. Clyde Barrow
5. John Muir Trail
6. 5E3 Build
7. Chris McCandless
8. Monosodium Glutamate
9. Bilderberg
10. JM Boswell

Have any interesting rabbit hole searches of your own? Share them in the comments section… I’m in the mood to do some digging.

Until next Tuesday…

It’s been long overdue, and I’m happy to say that I’ll be back out on the road this coming January/February. That being said, I want to come to where you are. I’m currently in the process of booking dates and working out the routing, so this is the part where I could use your input. The states I’ll most likely be coming through (highlighted in blue) are as follows:

If you live in one of these states and want to make sure I come to your city, either let me know below in the comments, or shoot me an email (jonathan[at]jonathanclay[dot]com). Can’t make any promises, but I’ll do my best to make it to as many places as possible. Also, if you know of any cool local venues that I may not be aware of, let me know. I’ll get all the info to my booking agent and make it happen.

2011 is going to be a busy year. Busy is a good thing.

see you soon.
