We landed a monster. This is my fish story.

A lot has been going on…  For the past few months I have been planning a move to Los Angeles which was supposed to take place last week.  Unfortunately, that has been postponed until February.  Another reminder that just when you think you’ve got your plans laid out, life can turn them upside down on a whim.  It’s not all bad though.  I love it here in Austin, and I’ve got a few more months to get the most out of it.  I’ve been doing a ton of writing lately.  Particularly, a bunch of co-writes with Zach. Musically, we’ve been taking it in some really different directions, and we’ve been kicking around the idea of a duo project.  To be honest with you, it feels so unequivocally fresh.  If I had to describe the music we’re writing in one word, that word would be uninhibited.  No over-thinking, no pre-tenses, and no expectations.  Just writing because we love doing it.  On a side note…. A song that we wrote last year (Bring Your Love) for Zach’s solo album will be featured on tonight’s episode of Private Practice on ABC.  Nice :-)
As you know, any excuse I have to get outdoors is an opportunity I’m going to take advantage of.  The place that we were writing at a few weeks ago is somewhat of a primitive cabin north of Sam Houston National Forest.  In actuality it’s more like a glorified shanty with plumbing.  I don’t care though.  I don’t go there to hang out inside, I go there to get away from the city and to clear my head.  It’s an awesome place to spark your creativity.  On that property, there is a small lake with a john-boat.  The boat leaks water from about 20 different little holes, but it works good enough to give you about 30 minutes of fishing before you have to start dumping water.  Legend has it that there is a monster bass in this lake.  Zach swears he had him on the line once and that he spit the hook right before he got him in the boat.  Nobody else saw it, and I don’t think I ever really believed his story.  Sorry Zach ;-)  On one fateful evening we took to the water in that rickety boat and about 10 minutes in, Zach got a hard tug on is line.  We thought he was hung on a sunken tree or something because his line wasn’t moving.  It was at that point that our white whale jumped completely out of the water.  We rowed the boat to the shore, jumped out, and reeled him in.  I couldn’t believe it.  I’m not the kind of guy to want to put something like that on my wall.  I’ve got too much respect for him… We snapped a quick picture and let him go back in to the water.  Watching him swim off was probably the most rewarding moment of the evening.  Here is the proof…

We’ve got a private event we’re playing in Park City, Utah next weekend.  Should be an amazing time.  After the show on Friday, we scheduled in a few extra days to drop down to Bryce Canyon National park.  We’re going to tackle the Under The Rim Trail.  At 23 miles, it’s not too crazy, but it’s the parks longest trek, and it will be one to remember.  If I’m getting any kind of service, I’ll post some blogs/pictures from the trail.  Until next time…
